Picking Wedding Flowers (For dummies… like me!)

September 17, 2011 - Leave a Response

I went to my first meeting with Robin Holland of Simple Bouquets knowing pretty much nothing about flowers. What I did know, was that I didn’t want to spend a whole lot of money. I had no idea how much flowers cost, so I didn’t even go in with a budgeted amount. I felt like I was totally unprepared, and I was a little nervous!

The only things I really had were a couple inspiration photos and a very vague list of things that I wanted:

  • Fluffy white centerpieces, but not all white… some greenery too.
  • No baby’s breath.
  • No big white bridal roses.
  • Little yellow billy buttons poking out. (Love those little flowers!)
  • A white, not-too-neat, fluffy bouquet with exposed stems tied together with a ribbon.

Thankfully, my nerves didn’t last very long after I arrived at the meeting. Robin was so patient and helpful, and put me at ease right away! We started out by talking about what I wanted my overall wedding to look like, so she would have an idea of what would compliment my theme, my dress and our wedding location.

Robin brought along her laptop to show me pictures on her Facebook Page of the flowers we talked about, so I knew exactly what they looked like. Here’s what I decided on:

The Invitations Revealed

August 30, 2011 - One Response

I just realized that I told you all about my adventures in narrowing down all of my invitation ideas, finalizing the wording and layout, and hand-addressing everything, but I never showed you my final invitation! Well, without further ado, here it is!

Here's the front, addressed to my guests of honor, Minnie and Mickey.

Out Of Town Bags

August 29, 2011 - Leave a Response

Since our wedding was to end at midnight, I reserved a block of rooms at The Fairway Motel (a cute little motel with 12 rooms conveniently right on the Lake Sunapee Country Club property).

To welcome my guests to the motel, I put together some little care packages to leave in the rooms.

I started out with a quick trip to the Dollar Store to buy all of my supplies, and also bought 12 kraft paper gift bags. (They came in packs of 3, so it only cost $4.)

I also bought:

  • Little Packs of Asprin (Since we had an open bar.)
  • Granola Bars (A little midnight snack.)
  • 2 Chocolate Easter Bunnies (We got married Easter weekend.)
  • Gum (In case anyone forgot their toothbrush.)
  • 2 Water Bottles (To re-hydrate after busting too many moves on the dance floor.)

Overall, I spent about $25-30 on everything, since most of the items came in packs of more than one.

To personalize the bags, I decided to put a little monogram on them:

Photobooth Props

August 18, 2011 - Leave a Response

Now that I had reserved my photo booth for the wedding, I knew I wanted to have a box of fun props that my guests could use while taking their pictures. I had seen some cool ideas online, but wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted:

Chalkboard signs? Very cool idea, and would match some other wedding projects I had done.

How about a… Photobooth?

August 16, 2011 - One Response

One of my biggest wedding fears during my 16 month planning extravaganza was that my guests would get bored and leave before the wedding was over. I had already decided on a 7pm ceremony, and a reception until midnight, but I had no idea what to do to entertain my guests during the 4 hours and 50 minutes of reception. (Yes, I do plan on having the shortest ceremony ever! More on that later.) Of course, food, drinks and dancing would keep guests happy for a little while, but for almost 5 hours?? I had my doubts. That’s when I decided that I had to have a REALLY fun activity at my wedding.

I had been obsessing over the whole wedding photo booth trend for months, but had decided against it early on because of the expensive price tag.
