The internet is a great tool for finding color scheme and decoration ideas for your wedding, but don’t limit your search to JUST wedding websites. Interior design, Nature photography, and fashion websites are great places to fine great ideas as well.
A couple things to keep in mind when deciding on a color scheme:
- Choose colors that reflect the beauty of the location you choose. Modern metallic colors or bright, summer colors may not look right if you are having your reception in a traditional, old-world venue.
- You are going to be surrounded by these colors on your wedding day. Make sure these are colors that flattering on you. Take a look in your closet… What colors to you L
- Easter pastels will not do in the middle of winter. Choose colors that compliment the season.
- Avoid making your wedding too “matchy matchy” – Even though the idea of having a color scheme is to tie everything together, remember that neutral colors like browns, blacks, greys, and metallic tones are very important. Going overboard on one color can look cheesy.
Spring
Soft, feminine pastels like light pinks and purples are one way to go when having a spring wedding, but do keep in mind that it can be very easy to go overboard on the girly colors. Green, chocolate brown, and champagne colors are a bit more masculine, but still soft. I LOVE the idea of using JUST the more masculine colors. Talk about classy!
Summer
Bright colors will make your summer wedding POP! Tropical hues and bold, jewel tones are perfect for summer. Those of you who can pull off yellow… more power to you.
Autumn
Let nature inspire you! The New England foliage is great inspiration for an autumn wedding. Think pumpkins, maple syrup, straw, smoky grays…
Winter
Just because you are getting married during the holidays doesn’t mean you have to have a red and green Christmas wedding. Deep purples, golds, and burgundys are some other classic winter colors that will give your wedding a festive, elegant feel. If you want a lighter, more modern winter wonderland feel, try silvers and cool ice blue colors.

I think that sounds like a great color theme! There is nothing wierd about having black and white as wedding colors, since that is normally what the bride and groom are dressed in. Purple and lavender would be a great addition to the black and white. Take a look at this link to see photos from a BEAUTIFUL wedding that uses a similar color scheme: http://www.melissajill.net/index.cfm?postID=418
I hope this helps!
