I Want a Dolly Dress!

While surfing around some of my favorite wedding blogs a couple weeks ago, I came across a website for a designer that specializes in knee-length wedding gowns: www.dollycouture.com

Here’s a little collage of some of her amazing dresses:

AH! I LOVE THEM! I want to wear all of her dresses on my wedding day! Then, just as I thought it couldn’t get any better, I clicked on her “custom closet’ and discovered that she also designs CUSTOM gowns!!! Sounds expensive, right? Well, in this case, that’s wrong. Dolly’s dresses (even the custom ones) are all WAY under $1,000.00! So I grabbed a pencil and started sketching…

Hopefully my wedding dress!

  1. Sweetheart neckline (Check!)
  2. Strapless or halter (Check!)
  3. No lace (Check!)
  4. Minimal to no beading (Check!)
  5. Well defined waist (Check!)
  6. Slightly unique details (Check!)
  7. Overall classic, timeless look (HELLLOOOO Audrey!)
  8. Not super formal (Check!)
  9. Minimal poofiness (unless knee-length, then max poof is preferred) (Max poof check!)

Now the big decision is: Do I REALLY want to buy a wedding dress online? Of course it makes me a little nervous purchasing a dress site unseen, but at this point I don’t really think I have a choice. I am head over heels for her cute dresses, the price is right, and I can pretty much design my own dress. I also carefully read all of the information on the website, and felt like it all made a ton of sense. So, my next step was to email the company and ask them a billion questions. I also sent my sketch to them. Nickie got back to me within a few hours and said that they could absolutely make me my dress! Now, I’m just waiting for my fabric samples to arrive in the mail!

Since I have a little over a year before my wedding, I’m going to wait a couple months before ordering the dress, which will give me plenty of time to think about it. I would really like to order it now though, because I’M SO EXCITED to have a custom gown on my wedding day!!!

So now I guess this is the end of my dress shopping, and I can’t say I’m disappointed. Throughout my dress shopping experience I tried on about 30 wedding gowns and really liked a bunch of them, but none of them were really me, and I was getting a little tired of it all (wedding dresses are HEAVY!)… so I guess that designing a custom dress really is the answer after all!
