I went to my first meeting with Robin Holland of Simple Bouquets knowing pretty much nothing about flowers. What I did know, was that I didn’t want to spend a whole lot of money. I had no idea how much flowers cost, so I didn’t even go in with a budgeted amount. I felt like I was totally unprepared, and I was a little nervous!
The only things I really had were a couple inspiration photos and a very vague list of things that I wanted:
- Fluffy white centerpieces, but not all white… some greenery too.
- No baby’s breath.
- No big white bridal roses.
- Little yellow billy buttons poking out. (Love those little flowers!)
- A white, not-too-neat, fluffy bouquet with exposed stems tied together with a ribbon.
Thankfully, my nerves didn’t last very long after I arrived at the meeting. Robin was so patient and helpful, and put me at ease right away! We started out by talking about what I wanted my overall wedding to look like, so she would have an idea of what would compliment my theme, my dress and our wedding location.
Robin brought along her laptop to show me pictures on her Facebook Page of the flowers we talked about, so I knew exactly what they looked like. Here’s what I decided on:
White Peonies (So pretty!!)
Stock
Spray Roses (These are little tiny roses.)
Ranunculus
Lisianthus
Hydrangea
Freesia
Billy Buttons
Robin was very helpful and conscious of my tight budget, and helped me choose flowers that were affordable and in season. Some of the more expensive flowers that I liked (like the peonies) she would use sparingly, or only in the bouquets. If there was a flower I liked but it wasn’t in season (like lilacs), she was quick to pick out a similar, budget friendly flower to use (like hydrangeas).
After deciding on the flowers, we made a list of all the guests of honor that would need bouquets, corsages & boutonieres. I also decided that I would really like a couple larger arrangements on pedestals to ‘frame’ us during the ceremony. Robin showed me some pictures of a couple white columns she had that I could rent, and some matching white vases to set on top.
Also, instead of spending the money on huge centerpieces, I decided to have smaller arrangements at each table, along with a couple mason jars with candles in them, and the birds I had purchased as well. That way, there would be more of a ‘centerpiece spread’ on each table.
I left my meeting with Robin feeling really good! I didn’t feel over-budget, and I was thrilled with everything I was getting.
Even though I knew which flowers she was going to use for my wedding, I had NO idea what the final products would look like! I felt very confident, though, that she would do a fantastic job… and I was right! Keep reading to find out what the final product looked like!
